Once during a trip around the internet, I came across a petition for Disney Studios to make an animated movie for children featuring a “good” stepmother. You can check it out for yourself below:
Petition for Disney to give good stepmoms a movie
I don’t know if this petition will be successful, but I do know that good news doesn’t sell as well as bad news does in the media, so my money is not on this petition, although, I wish them the best.
When I was a stepmother I didn’t concern myself with how stepmothers were being portrayed in the media, because at the time I was trying to become a mother myself. And there are plenty of awesome movies featuring mothers. Whether they make it to Act 3 in the movie is another story, but it kind of comes with the territory of a “coming-of-age” movie.
Here’s what I do know: if any movie wants to portray a good stepmother there are a few elements it must include, and those are: grace, humility, and gratitude. All the traits expressed by Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph.
